Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic Primary School Kragujevac

Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic Primary School is a state school in Kragujevac, a town situated on the banks of the River Lepenica, the capital of the Sumadia Region and the cradle of education and culture in Serbia. The school is proud to bear the name of Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic, a Serbian philologist and linguist, the reformer of the Serbian language and the father of literacy in Serbia.

School Facilities Our school is a comprehensive primary school, with an enrolment of approximately 1, 095 pupils from Years 6, 5 to 14, 5. It also has two satellite schools in the nearby villages of Bukorovac and Trmbas, enrolling 18 pupils from Years 6, 5 to 10, 5. There are 65 members of teaching stuff and 24 members of Support and Administrative stuff. The school also employs a pedagogist and a psychologist.

Mission Statement Our school welcomes all pupils in the tradition of Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic, the founder of the literacy in Serbia. The primary aim of our school is the pursuit of academic excellence. We seek to develop the full potential of each pupil: intellectual, emotional, social, physical and creative. To achieve this, the school strives to provide an educational environment suited to the needs of each individual, within the demands of the state curriculum and those of a changing world. The school values promote the dignity of the human person, encourage the search for knowledge and lead to the promotion of mature personalities.

Our school provides a caring, safe and nurturing environment for all pupils. Whether pupils at Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic participate in in-school or outside-of-school activities, they are affirmed in their special talents. Involvement in school activities is a collaborative effort by both teachers and parents to foster the intellectual, emotional, physical and social development of each pupil. Furthermore, involvement in school activities has been shown to improve pupils’ academic performance, self-confidence and future success. Throughout every school year, our pupils come together to help people in need. These activities range from fundraising days for children in need to staging plays for kindergartens.
