Local Wellness The Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004 required School Districts that participate in child nutrition programs to establish local wellness policies by the beginning of School Year 2006 -2007.

SMI Field Training • FNS will continue visiting States – accompany State and Regional staff – assist in 2006 -2009 reviews – 8 States visited since January 2007 – 3 visits planned for March 2007

Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program • Became a permanent program in 8 states and 3 Indian Tribal Organizations – June 30, 2004 • Reauthorization Act provided mandatory $9, 000 annually beginning FY 2005

Additional FFVP States • In 2006, Congress appropriated $6, 000 for 6 additional states • Funding expires June 30, 2007
