Eligibility Age Requirements: Birth through 12 (day before 13 th birthday) Child must be a U. S. citizen or legal resident Activity at application: ØEmployment ØWork. First ØBFET ØSchool Income at application: 200% Federal Poverty Level Income at application: 200 percent Federal Poverty Level
What other activities is a client eligible for? ØTravel time: The default travel time is 30 minutes ØSleep time: May be covered for a client before or after a night shift. ØStudy time: Up to 10 hours per week.
What changes do families need to report? General Changes: ØChange of address ØIncome exceeds 85 percent of the state median ØResources exceed $1 million ØProvider Changes: Reported within five days
Child Care Providers Provider types Ø Licensed Center § Paid a daily rate: Either full day or half day Ø Licensed Family Home § Paid a daily rate: Either full day or half day Ø Friend, Family or Neighbor (license-exempt) § Paid Hourly
Locating Providers Child Care Aware can assist families with locating a child care provider: Ø 1 -800 -446 -1114 Øwww. childcarenet. org ØEarly Achievers is the child care quality improvement and rating system used in Washington. ØChild Care Aware can provide a provider’s EA score to families to aid them in choosing a quality provider.
Special Needs Child Care If a child has verified special needs, an additional rate can be authorized to offset the cost of providing additional supports a child may need. Clients can contact the Customer Service Contact Center and ask for special needs paperwork. Special needs rates can be paid to both licensed and unlicensed child care providers.
General Guidelines Ø Applications are good for 30 days Ø Two parent households: Both parents must be in an approved activity Ø Child care eligibility periods are for 12 months Ø Clients will pay a monthly copayment to their child care provider.
Child Care for Families Experiencing Homelessness Ø Families that meet the definition of “homeless” may be eligible for child care for four months while they work to resolve homelessness and begin employment, TANF or BFET. Ø During this four month period they have no copayment. Ø If, by the end of the four month period, the parent(s) enter an approvable activity and/or resolve any outstanding copayments, their certification will be extended to 12 months, and they will have a copayment in months 5 -12.
