PRESENTATION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF TIRANA The University of Tirana was founded on 16 September 1957 under the name of State University of Tirana. The State University of Tirana was composed of 6 faculties in which some were previously established institutes.

PRESENTATION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF TIRANA The Senate Composed by 40 members The Rector of the University of Tirana is the Chairperson of the Senate. The Senate of the University of Tirana is a supreme collegial body elected by the University.
PRESENTATION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF TIRANA University of Tirana implemented the Bologna Process in 2005. Offers around 60 Bachelor degrees. The duration of Bachelor Degrees is generally 3 years. Master degree programmes. ( Professional and Science). The duration of a Master degree is 1 or 2 years. The “Doctorate” is given after completing the Master. Duration of Ph. D is 3 -5 years.
PRESENTATION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF TIRANA International Cooperation University of Tirana has institutional cooperation with many Universities around the World. There are over 30 agreements with European Universities. University of Tirana is very active in international projects and is working in increasing its presence.
PRESENTATION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF TIRANA Structural organization The structural organization of the University of Tirana with eight faculties creates a close network of vertical cooperation between the rector and the Dean’s office. The rector has the decision making power of deciding the general lines of the University’s development, of appointing the academic and the administrative staff.

PRESENTATION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF TIRANA The University budget The budget of the university is administrated from the administrative Council. 65 per cent comes from the government for the salary and social insurance, the other part comes from the fee of the students and the other services of the faculty. Each faculty has a chancellor that monitors, administrates and organizes all the financial problems.
PRESENTATION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF TIRANA Student recruitment The recruitment of the first course of the bachelor degree is organized according to the students results of State Matura. The faculty selects the students for Master’s and Doctorate Programmes. 35 000 students (full time and part time) continue their studies in the University of Tirana.
University of Tirana doesn’t have a full autonomy and it is often depended from the Albanian Government, the Ministry of Education and Science. There are several laws that should be changed in order to foster the decision making financial process.
