Reading • Good readers think about the main topic of informational texts. • Mini-Lesson: We’re reviewing this week how to identify the main topic of a nonfiction text. We can do this by “adding up” the details to see what the text is mostly about. Let’s complete a matching activity to practice. • Task: Read “Bike Safety” as well as “Let’s Be Healthy” and see if we can identify the main topic and some key details. Grammar Remember that verbs are actions, things that you can do. Verb tense tells when an action occurs. We can write verbs in present tense, past tense, and future tense. We add endings, called inflectional endings, to a root word to change its tense. Let’s look at some spelling rules for adding inflectional endings. Teaching Point: I can add endings to words to change the tense.
