Reading • Good readers think about the main topic of informational texts. • Mini-Lesson: We are continuing to work on identifying the main topic of an informational text. We will also talk about the main ideas of paragraphs in the text. Let’s practice together by reading, Rain Forests and Ocean Life. • Task: Write the main idea of each paragraph on the lines provided. Writing Teaching Point: I can write to support my opinion. • Good writers write to support their opinion. • I can write an opinion paragraph and give reasons and details to support my opinion. • Mini-Lesson: This week we will write about the importance of taking care of the Earth. We will share our opinion and give reasons to support it. We will also share specific ways we can take care of the Earth. • Task: Complete the graphic organizer.

Grammar Remember that verbs are actions, things that you can do. Verb tense tells when an action occurs. We can write verbs in present tense, past tense, and future tense. We add endings, called inflectional endings, to a root word to change its tense. Sometimes we have to change the spelling of the word completely. We call this irregular past tense verbs. Let’s look at some examples of irregular past tense verbs together. Teaching Point: I can write verbs in past tense.

Science • Mini-Lesson: In quarter 4 we will be learning about the life cycle of plants and animals. A life cycle is all the stages of a living thing’s life.
