Reading • Good readers read a variety of genres and pay attention to the point of view of characters. • Mini-Lesson: Today, we will continue to discuss the stories we read yesterday, The Three Little Pigs and The True Story of the Tree Little Pigs. Who is telling each story? How is the wolf’s point of view different than the three pigs’ point of view? • Task: Complete the point of view handout as we discuss together. Writing Teaching Point: I can write to support my opinion. • Good writers write to support their opinion about a topic. • When we write to support our opinion, we always include reasons and examples. Think O-R-E-O. • Mini-Lesson: Yesterday you completed the sloppy copy of your opinion paragraph in your writing journal. Today, you will use the editing checklist to read over your work and make corrections. • Task: Use the checklist to edit.
Phonics Vowels include a, e, i, o, u, and sometimes y. Vowel sounds can be short or long. Long vowel sounds say their name. Some words with a long vowel sound end in a silent e. Other long vowel sounds are formed by vowel teams. Sometimes vowel teams make new sounds, called diphthongs. We can also put an “r” with a vowel to make a new sound. Let’s learn about how the “r” bosses the vowels. Teaching Point: I can read and spell words with bossy r sounds.

Social Studies • Mini-Lesson: Jackie Robinson was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement who worked hard to end segregation in Major League Baseball. Today, we will listen to Pebble Go to see if there is anything new that we can learn about his life. Teaching Point: I can describe the life and contributions of Jackie Robinson.
