Reading • Good readers identify theme of stories. We can identify the lesson, or moral, of a fable. • Mini-Lesson: We will review the characteristics of fables that we learned last week as well as our lesson yesterday on identifying the lesson, or moral, of a fable. • Task: Read, “The Ant and the Grasshopper” and complete a page in your fables booklet. Listen to the points of view of the kid and the ant in the story, Hey Little Ant. What is each character’s opinion? • Task: Complete the chart as we discuss

Phonics Vowels include a, e, i, o, u, and sometimes y. Vowel sounds can be short or long. Long vowel sounds say their name. Some words with a long vowel sound end in a silent e. Other long vowel sounds are formed by vowel teams. Sometimes vowel teams make new sounds, called diphthongs. Let’s review the diphthong spelling patterns, “oi” and “oy” by completing the Spoiled with Toys handout. Teaching Point: I can read and spell words with long vowel teams.
