“The Gainsaying Of Korah” Korah Was Called A “Gainsayer” (Jude 11). Gainsayer = rebel Acts 10: 29; Romans 10: 21; Titus 1: 9 How did Korah rebel? – Numbers 16: 2 -3 Korah rebelled against Moses. In so doing, he rebelled against God!
“The Gainsaying Of Korah” Korah Was Envious (Num. 16: 3). The people conspired against Moses, accusing him of making Aaron a priest, contrary to God (Ex. 19: 6). Korah’s envy motivated these actions. • Envy = Unhappy with another’s blessings. • Envy leads to attacking others. • Envy does not obey Romans 12: 15! Galatians 5: 19 -21; James 3: 16
“The Gainsaying Of Korah” Korah Was Unbelieving. Korah simply refused to accept God’s will in this matter of the priesthood! These actions influenced others to sin as well (Dathan/Abiram)! One can rebel when he stops: • Believing in God (Ps. 14: 1) • Obeying God (Jas. 2: 24; Rom. 10: 16)
“The Gainsaying Of Korah” Korah Was Proud. Korah was dissatisfied with his role (Ex. 6: 1821; Num. 4: 1 -20). This pride led to his downfall and the downfall of those who followed him (Num. 16: 28 -33). Pride is a dangerous thing (Prov. 18: 12; III Jn. 9 -11)! Pride destroys!!
“The Gainsaying Of Korah” “Woe To Them! (Jude 11) “Woe” = interjection denoting pain or displeasure (Arndt and Gingrich). • “The most terrible statement ever uttered” (Lenski). Woe to those who are like Korah and: • Oppose God’s Authority! • Rebel Against Him! Numbers 16: 11
