ESSENTIALS • Our home course is Village Green GC in Moorhead. 95% of practices will take place at Village Green. A handful of practices during the season will take place at Osgood GC. Until coaches begin their yearly teaching contracts, practices will be held at 9: 00 a. m. Once coaches’ teaching duties have begun, practices will take place at 4: 00. • All players must have their own clubs and transportation. • Practices will generally last 1 ½ - 2 hours. For varsity and upper junior varsity players, practices may occasionally last longer. • Athletes must have a physical form on file in order to practice. If you had a physical last year, parents need only to complete Form B and you are good. If you did not have a sports physical last year, you must have one to participate. • Parents and athletes must complete/sign the Risk & Warning Form. • The participation fee is $60. • Athletes must have completed 4 practices in order to compete in a competition. • Schedules will be handed out at the first practice.

EXPECTATIONS • All members of the golf team represent WF Sheyenne on the course, in school, and in public. It is expected that golfers on this team present an exemplary example in all aspects of their lives. Members of the team are to obey all North Dakota High School Activities and WFPS rules and regulations. Golfers are also to maintain an excellent standing in school since golfers miss a large amount of school during the season. It is also the responsibility of all golfers to maintain a positive image with the public. • It is expected that team members promote, and are ambassadors, of the game throughout the year. You are asked to help younger golfers gain an understanding and appreciation for the game and promote it as an activity at WF Sheyenne. Even during the off season, it is important that members of the golf team participate and encourage others in local and state tournaments. • Golf is a game of integrity. To make this sport the best it can be, golfers must report accurate scores at all times. Golf is the only sport that doesn’t have an official following the competitors to make rulings and ensure fairness. Failure to do honestly report scores may result in loss of playing time and/or removal from the team.

CAPTAINS • Captains are chosen by the team the year at the end of the season prior to the captains taking their positions and will be announced at the end of the year banquet. This year’s captains are Elizabeth Nelson and Sydney Volesky • The duties of the captains include: § Assist the coaches with assigned tasks during the season and off-season. § Act as a liaison between the players and the coaches. They are to present questions or discuss problems during the season. PRACTICE • Practice will be held at Village Green Golf Course in Moorhead or, occasionally, Osgood Golf Course. Players are responsible for arranging for their own rides to practice. Practice sessions may consist of qualifying rounds, playing holes on the golf course, or practicing specific skills via hitting range balls and chipping and putting. When we practice, the focus will be on skill development. Each player’s focus and effort is vital, no matter what the practice session consists of. We are guests at the course and should treat the course with that in mind. Always leave the course in better shape than you found it. Players are required to attend all practices and, when possible, must notify coaches in advance if the need to miss a practice arises. The dress code for practices follows a simple rule, if your attire is appropriate for school, then it is appropriate for practice. In the event practice must be cancelled due to weather or other circumstances, coaches will contact each school for an announcement to be read before the end of the school day and/or a text or Schoology message will be sent to the players by the coaches notifying them of the cancellation.

QUALIFYING FOR TOURNAMENTS • Tournament qualifying will be determined over a specific number of holes and by score on the hole with the lowest handicap if a tiebreaker is necessary. • The players with the six lowest scores during the qualifying round will participate in the first tournament(s) of the year. • Players who shoot 15 strokes over par or tournament medalist, whichever is higher, or finish in the top 10 places overall at a varsity tournament, will be exempt from qualifying for the next subsequent tournament. • Coaches also have the discretion of not qualifying for a particular tournament.

TOURNAMENTS • Travel to out-of-town tournaments will be done in large school buses, the mini bus, or a rental vehicle. A specific time and place will be set to travel to out of town courses. You are not allowed to travel on your own to out-of-town tournaments. • Travel to in-town tournaments for varsity golfers is up to the individual golfer. For junior varsity golfers, transportation will be provided by the school. As junior varsity tournaments are generally 9 holes, golfers will be returned to their school and they are expected to return to class for the remainder of the school day. • Parents may choose to pick up their golfer from a tournament but must sign a school form indicating they are taking responsibility for the golfer returning home. Only parents may transport a golfer home and grandparents, neighbors, or friends are not allowed to transport a golfer unless permission has been previously been granted by the Activities Director at Sheyenne. • Range balls will be covered by the team for all varsity tournaments. • In the event of overnight stays due to the schedule, players may be required to pay some money to help cover the cost of the hotel. The rest of the cost will be offset by funds from our fundraising account. • Meals and/or meal money are not furnished for any tournaments other than the state tournament. Golfers are responsible for their own meal costs. • Golfers are required by the NDHSAA to wear a collared shirt at golf tournaments. Also, our team rule is that golfers must wear some type of non-jean shorts or pants to tournaments.
