SANDOVAL COUNTY SENIOR SERVICES
Legislative Capital Outlay � � Following the ALTSD Capital Outlay application process and the County’s Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan, the Sandoval County Senior Services requested GOB funding in 2012 to plan and design a new Bernalillo Senior Center building. In 2013 Sandoval County SS requested STB funding to construct the new building. In 2015 that County was awarded a contract, which allowed the County to advertise the Request for Proposal for architectural services. In 2016 the County was awarded initial funding for the new Bernalillo Senior Center.
The Bernalillo Senior Center Background � � � The Bernalillo Senior Center is current located in the Town of Bernalillo’s building, since 1989 with services operated by Sandoval County. The Town of Bernalillo’s building was built in the 1940 and was a home that had many rooms added to it over years. Part of the building is occupied by a therapeutic preschool. The Town of Bernalillo and Sandoval County have joined collaborative efforts to see that seniors from the Bernalillo area, which includes Northern Rio Rancho, San Isidro, Placitas, Algodones and Pena Blanca.

Challenges with project: • • Having to go out for 2 RFPs for the project and yet still not able to bring project in under budget until having to have to go out to the open market. Having to value engineer parts of the project out without changing the scope of work and not compromising the commercial kitchen. Initial 10, 000 sq ft building was downsized to 7, 200
Coordinated with subcontractors for installation of equipment and furnishings
The Construction Phase was completed in June 2018 INSTALLATION OF ARTWORK PENDING INSPECTIONS AND OCCUPANCY PERMIT
The Sandoval County Community Services Department and Senior Services is pleased to announce that the Grand Opening for the new Bernalillo Senior Center took place on October 5, 2018
