Effects of chlorine water • When a blue litmus paper is dipped into chlorine water it turns red and immediately turns to colourless. • A red litmus paper will turn to colourless. • A coloured flower will turn to colourless • A green leaf will be decolourised.
Bleaching effects of chlorine water
Discussion • Chloric I acid in the chlorine water is unstable, it therefore reacts with coloured substances bleaching them. • The blue litmus turned to red because chlorine water is acidic. • The substances were decolourised because of the bleaching effect of chloric I acid in the chlorine water.
