English 3 (8 th Gr. )-Course Objectives To read, understand, and appreciate literature throughout the different eras of World Literature To integrate reading into students’ lives To improve writing and research skills To enhance vocabulary and sentence structure in writing To locate, organize and interpret written information for a variety of purposes. To demonstrate study and test-taking skills. To compare & contrast (recognize and perform) To identify & create a variety of literary devices To engage in higher order thinking; emphasis on Writing

AP Language & Composition AP Literature & Composition Objectives This is a rigorous course

AP Language & Composition AP Literature & Composition Objectives This is a rigorous course where students will be reading and writing in a way that will prepare them for college and assist them in communicating skillfully on a personal and/or professional level through writing. Students will be asked to write responding to readings representing a wide variety of styles, genres and topics, primarily nonfiction. Readings may include, but are not limited to, topics on culture, race, gender, education, science, politics and popular culture. In responding to what they read, students will have to answer questions explaining how the writer’s attitude or intention gets delivered through rhetoric and linguistic choices. Students will also be afforded the opportunity to work in peer writing and thinking groups using College Board and research-based techniques. -The College Board
