One Thing

There is a great value in learning "one thing. " • We often use the expression "one thing" for sake of emphasis. • Parents say to children: "This one thing you must do. " • Or, we might say, "I tell you one thing. . . " "I know one thing. . . " "Above all else, this one thing must be done. . . " "Don't forget this one thing. . . "

There is a great value in learning "one thing. " • The expression "one thing" shows a heart that has a purposed set of priorities! • This is described as the “pure in heart” in the beatitudes. (Mt 5: 8) • Are we “double-minded” or can we see the “one thing” we should see? (Jas 4: 8)

There is a great value in learning "one thing. " • James 4: 8 - Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

"One things I have desired. . . " (Psalm 27: 4) • (Psalms 27: 4 NKJV) - “One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple. ”

Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9 receiving the end of your faith -the salvation of your souls.

One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see. ” {26} Then they said to him again, “What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes? ” {27} He answered them, “I told you already, and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become His disciples? ”

"One thing I know. " (John 9: 25 -34) • The once blind man was being questioned regarding the fact that Jesus of Nazareth had healed him! He testified that he did know one thing. • He had been blind, but now he sees. He knows this and will speak even with opposition! (2 Cor 4: 13 -14)

(Lk 10: 41 -42) • Often our real priorities are shown in trivial matters. This is not easy! • Mary was wise enough to see what was more important.

"But one thing is needful. " (10: 38 -42) • Mary is mentioned in three different scenes in the NT, and each time we find her at the feet of Jesus: here in this reading, at the anointing of Jesus' feet (John 11: 1 -2; Matt. 26: 6 -13), and at the raising of Lazarus (John 11: 32).

Forget it and follow after truth. • Forget past hurts and reach forward to love. • Forget past accomplishments and reach forward to more work in the Lord.
