What is the CHKS? ü The California Healthy Kids Survey is a comprehensive and customizable self-reporting survey. ü CHKS provides essential and reliable health risk assessment and resilience information to schools, districts, and communities. ü CHKS is implemented in grades 5, 7, 9, 11 and in nontraditional (NT) schools. ü CHKS is administered every 2 years.

CHKS ü is conducted by the majority of California public schools; ü is the only survey which looks at the assets of youth as well as areas of concern; ü meets the assessment requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) for Title IV Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities (SDFSC) by accurately identifying areas of strength and weakness.

CHKS is designed to be part of a comprehensive data-driven decision making process to help guide the development of Goal 4 of the District LEA Plan: All students will have a safe healthy learning environment. CHKS will assist in the needs assessment for the LCAP and framing recommendations on School Climate. The Core CHKS module examines student attitudes and behavior around ü Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) use ü Tobacco use ü Violence and safety ü Physical health ü Resilience and external assets

Results Purpose of this presentation is to highlight findings and serve as a reference point in the ongoing conversation around student wellbeing. It allows for our district and health agencies to: v continue or open dialogue with students around new topics/findings, vcheck on progress, vcontinue or open dialogue with community agencies, and to pursue further findings.
