What are the Marie Curie Actions? Pierre and Marie Curie honeymoon, 1895 § Significant EU fellowships programmes since 1990 (FP 3) for researchers’ mobility § Marie Curie label since 1996 (more than 50. 000 fellows to date) § Actions aimed at structuring training, mobility and career development for researchers § Implemented through People Programme (FP 7 2007 -2013)

Initial Training Networks (ITN) € 1. 9 billion in FP 7 Aim to improve career perspectives of early stage researchers in both public & private sector § § § Multi-partner ITNs - international and interdisciplinary networks of organisations presenting a joint research training programme with strong outreach activities From 2012 WP – pilot project on European Industrial Doctorates (EID) Mono-partner ITNs - Innovative Doctoral Programmes (IDP) As an associated country, Moldova will be counted as one of the partners required by the minimum eligibility rule for consortium under multi-ITN or EID. Moldova can also present projects for IDP. Þ About 10 000 researchers to be funded

Life-long Training and Career Development € 1. 6 billion in FP 7 Intra-European Fellowships for career development (IEF) § § Nationals of any country, active in Europe Mobility in Europe: from a MS or AS to another MS or AS Personal Career Development Plan Up to 2 years of funding Ø New Career Restart panel Career Integration Grants (CIG) § Financial contribution of 25 000 €/year (flat rate) during 2 -4 years § Host institution in Europe (MS/AC), including country of origin § Research costs, including salary of researchers or assistants As an associated country, Moldovan organisations can host researchers under IEF and CIG

MCA - COFUND Co-funding of Regional, National and International Programmes (COFUND) Participant rules: Organisations funding and managing a fellowship programme in EU MS or AC Ø Official public bodies (ministries, academies, councils, agencies, …) Ø Other public/private bodies (large research organisations, charities, …) Ø Bodies at international level, running such schemes at European level Eligible researchers: Ø Experienced researchers Ø Three types of trans-national mobility: Outgoing: to another MS/AC/TC* Incoming: from another MS/AC/TC* Re-integration: from TC to home MS/AC (after a research stay of at least 3 years) EU contribution: Ø 40% of the fellowship costs for eligible researchers (max. 10 M€ per participant) As an associated country, Moldova can present (a) programme(s) for Marie Curie co-funding.

MCA - International Dimension International Outgoing Fellowships for career development (IOF) § § Initial outgoing phase outside Europe for up to 2 years 1 year compulsory re-integration phase in a Member State or Associated Country For experienced researchers only Personal Career Development Plan MD will not anymore be eligible as a third country host. MD researchers can benefit from IOF to go outside EU MS and AC. International Incoming Fellowships (IIF) § § Mobility from Third Countries to Europe funded up to 2 years Return grant of one year possible for ICPC countries of € 15, 000 MD can host researchers coming from other third countries (non MS/AC).

International Research Staff Exchange Scheme (IRSES) Objective: To establish or deepen partnerships between at least 2 research organisations in Member States/Associated Countries and 1 organisation in Countries covered by the European Neighbourhood policy and Countries with S&T Agreements through a joint programme of exchange of researchers

IRSES Exchange Programme § Multi-annual joint exchange programme (balanced & coordinated) § Short term exchanges (up to 1 year person in total) § Staff: researchers, management, technical staff § Exchanges to/from Europe (not between EU/AC partners) § Staff are seconded (salary is paid by the institution of origin) § Partner institutes select their staff for exchange § EU contribution: 1900€ researcher/month (+ 200€ for long distance) § For ICPC an identical EU contribution is provided if requested As an associated country, Moldovan institutions can participate in exchange only with OTC. Staff exchange between MD and EU/AC will not anymore be eligible.

Researchers’ Night Objective: à Bringing closer general public and researchers; à Point out the positive impact of the researchers' job in daily life of citizens; à Promote research careers, in particular towards young people and their parents. § Organised once a year on the fourth Friday of September, i. e. in 2012, the 28 th September § Duration: one evening/night, from late Friday afternoon until early morning the next Saturday § No requirement/limitation regarding the science topics dealt with § Addressing all age groups of the general public § Activities allowing a direct and active involvement of the public
