Statistics & Score Keeping 2 people required for statistics per game (home and away),

Statistics & Score Keeping 2 people required for statistics per game (home and away), a Spotter and a Recorder. Couples may work well for this job, especially for away games 1 Person is required for Score Keeper at home games. He/she will flip the scores on the score board and help both Stats & Time Keeper Our Club Maintains the Below Statistics: Player Stats • • Goals Shots on Goal Assists Ground Balls Take Aways Face-offs & Face-off Won Goalie Shots on Goalie Saves Team Stats • • • Wins/Losses Face-offs Won/Lost Ground Balls Won/Lost

Stat Definitions Goal (G) A goal is scored when a loose ball passes from

Stat Definitions Goal (G) A goal is scored when a loose ball passes from the front, completely through the imaginary plane formed by the edges of the goal line, the goal posts and the crossbar of the goal. Merely touching the line is not enough. Most of the time this is from a player taking a shot, however the ball can go off the foot or any other part of the body of a player and into the goal. If a ball is dropped by the goalie into the goal, it counts as a goal for the opposing team. Referee always signals the goal scored. Assist (A) Any one direct pass by a player to a teammate who then scores a goal without having to dodge or evade an opponent other than a goal keeper. An assist is not necessarily awarded to a player who makes a pass before a goal is scored. If the player who makes the goal does not shoot immediately after the pass, it is an unassisted goal. Ground Ball (GB) Any ball not in possession of either team that a player gets possession of and is able to cradle, pass, or shoot. Take Away (T) Anytime a player checks or knocks the ball loose from an opponent and that player’s team gains possession the player that caused the turnover is credited with a “Take” Interception (I) Any ball caught in the air thrown by an opposing player Face Offs Won (FO/FOW) Winning the face-off is strictly the act that transpires between the two players facing off and answers the question: Who had control after the start of the face-off, regardless of which team ultimately takes possession of the ball Shots on Goal (SOG) For a goalie: a shot that results in a score (Goal) or a Save by the goalie. Saves + Goals = SOG All other players: If a player takes a shot but it misses the goal or is saved by goalie, they get credit for a shot. If it goes in goal they are awarded a shot and goal. Goalie Saves (S) A save is recorded any time the ball is stopped or deflected by the stick or body in such a matter that had the ball not been stopped it would have resulted in a goal

Recording Stats in Scorebook The score book will be kept in the Coach’s team

Recording Stats in Scorebook The score book will be kept in the Coach’s team bag. See the coach and ask if there any players out for the day’s game. Get there early enough to acquaint yourself with the scorebook & fill out rosters Use the laminated roster card in the score book to fill out the roster sections on the scoring page and summary page. Leave off any players that are not at the game that day Scoring Roster is at the far left side of the scoring page and Total Roster is on the far right of the adjacent summary page (see slide 11)

Recording Goals and Assists The table that runs along the top of the page

Recording Goals and Assists The table that runs along the top of the page is for recording goals and assists When a goal is scored, enter the player’s number who scored the goal in the “G” Column. Record Goals for both “Us” and “Them” If there was an assist to the goal, enter the player’s number who assisted above the “A” in the US Column. If no assist, put a slash through the box. Not required for “Them” The center row is used to record the time on game clock when score was made. Fill this in if you are able (i. e. sitting at score table during home games), not required for away games Do put a bold line in the scorebook designating the end of the quarter. A running Home & Visitors score will be needed by quarter on the official scorecard at home games Goal 1 Goal 2 Goal 3

Time Keeping One person is required for Time Keeping per home game Rule 1:

Time Keeping One person is required for Time Keeping per home game Rule 1: whenever the whistle blows, you do something with the clock Rule 2: refer to rule 1! There are two clocks kept at the score table that you will be in charge of, The Game Clock & The Penalty Clock. Two timers will be at the table for you to use You may also use your phone for one timer if that is easier

Game Clock Game time starts and stops with the blow of the official’s whistle

Game Clock Game time starts and stops with the blow of the official’s whistle When you hear the whistle, either start or stop the clock When game is resuming official will usually swing his arm in a circular motion, telling you to start the clock When there are 2 minutes left in the half, raise two fingers above your head and call out “two minutes” so everyone on the fields knows the half is drawing to a close Note: The clock does not always stop immediately after a flag is thrown, wait for the official to blow the whistle. The play may be allowed to continue depending on if it is an offensive or defensive foul

Penalty Clock The official will come to the table with the player and tell

Penalty Clock The official will come to the table with the player and tell you what the penalty is, how long the player will be in the penalty box, and if it is releasable (more on that later) It is a good habit to have the Stats folks record the penalty in the score book, but this is not required Time required for the penalty is usually 30 seconds – 1 minute. When a team has a player in the penalty box, they are “Man Down”

Penalty Clock, Cont. The penalty starts when the game clock starts again (and stops

Penalty Clock, Cont. The penalty starts when the game clock starts again (and stops as needed with the game clock) Sometimes there are multiple players in the box, so it helps to have another clock on hand (i. e. your phone timer) The players like to have a countdown to the end of their penalty, so let them know when ten seconds is left and then count down the last 5 for them. When the penalty is over, say “Released” to the player

Releasable vs. Non Releasable Penalties Releaseable Penalty: Player may leave the penalty box when

Releasable vs. Non Releasable Penalties Releaseable Penalty: Player may leave the penalty box when his opponents score a goal regardless of whether or not there is time left on his penalty Non-releasable Penalty: Player has to serve his entire penalty time regardless of goals scored against his team.
