MODULE 8: SELF CARE AND HEALTHY TEAMS Strategies for Fostering Healthy Team Culture Although some sites may be under-resourced, busy, and/or understaffed, there are many ways to promote a healthy team culture: • Champion self-care and resiliency practices rather than championing over-working • Create and disseminate messaging that states your site’s support for staff of all genders, sexualities, races, religions, abilities, sizes, family structures, cultures, and places of origin • Encourage staff to be open about workplace challenges and ask for help when they need it • Make it a habit for leadership to ask, “How can I support you? ” ©Please. Pr. EPMe. org. All rights reserved. • Start meetings with a brief “check-in” prompt, such as: - “What did you do to take care of yourself over the weekend? ” - “Name one difficult thing AND one good thing that happened this week. ” • Establish protocols to cover staff when they need an unscheduled break • Make sure employee insurance plans include mental health care benefits • Include “mental health days” in employee benefits • Ask staff to share their communication preferences and work style
