Green Flag Award What is it? Why does our school want one? How does the school get a green flag? Who helps to get the green flag award?
Green Flag award • Meet our school Eco Committee • Reuven, Brodie, Livi and Findlay • Our parent member Mrs Bronsdon and • Mrs Hunter who represents the teaching staff • But every one in Saltoun school has a part to play, teachers, children and their families. • We will now answer the questions.
Green Flag Award • The Green Flag award is a flag that you fly from a flag pole at school.
Green Flag Award • Our school wants a Green Flag Award because it shows that we care for our school, our community and our environment. • To get a Green Flag Award we have work for a year on green issues and send a form to the ECO Schools Governing Body. • The ECO Schools website gives lots of help and tells us what we have to do. • The ECO committee have had meetings and we have chosen our three topics to work on this year, these are: Litter (which is compulsory every year), Biodiversity and School Grounds.
Green Flag Award • The ECO code • All ECO schools must have a code which everyone agrees to follow • The committee has decided our code will be a poem • It must tell people that we plan to deal with or improve litter, bio diversity and our school grounds • We will have a competition to find the best poem • Entries can be made by individuals, pairs or groups • The ECO committee will judge the competition • The final date for entries is the 14 th February 2016

Green Flag Award • We have already started working towards the award • We all bin our rubbish and we have recorded our findings from our litter picks • We compost our fruit waste • Lee Young has helped us plant bulbs and we have received an award for our gardening skills • We have started feeding the birds so that we can take part in the RSPB Great schools Birdwatch • Today we welcome Mr Hunter who has come in to help us identify the birds which we might see.
