There is a right kind depending on the type of injury and its severity. • The bandage should be neat, clean, and free from contamination to avoid infection of the injury or wound. • Apply the bandage in an appropriate manner. It should fit not too tightly and not too loosely. A very tight bandage will disrupt the blood flow and a loose bandage will not hold the dressing properly. Sticking your index finger inside the bandage to check if it is snug enough.

If swelling tightened the bandage and restricts blood flow, reapply the bandage immediately to prevent restriction of blood flow on the limbs (arm, hand, leg, foot, fingers) • Some bandages need to be tied with a square knot while others can be secured with a hook. It is important that one should practice tying and untying a square knot.
