Law and Public Health • Specific objectives of the course • Upon successful completion of the course students would be able to: – work in the public health institutions in the country – perform analytical duties on the conditions in the public health sector – perform professional supervision in the health sector – prepare legislation in the area of medicine and public health – use their skills in the realization of the patients’ rights

Law and Public Health – Curriculum • The classes are divided into 12 weeks

Law and Public Health – Curriculum • The classes are divided into 12 weeks lecture – 42 total; • • 3, 5 per week. Number of ECTS credits – 6. Each week a different subject is elaborated. Some of the subjects covered with the curriculum are very broad and need a couple of weeks elaboration. The following are the subjects (topics) covered with the curriculum: – System and organization of the health protection in Republic of Macedonia – Protection of the rights of the patients and liability of the health care providers – Health care policy and public health – Improvement of the health and disease prevention – Legal issues in the performing of certain medical interventions – Bioethical and medical-legal aspects of the public health priorities

Law and Public Health • The course is interdisciplinary, covers both legal • • and medical aspects. The teachers team consists of professors and assistants from the Faculty of Law and the Medical faculty. If the course is active at the Faculty of law, for e. g. then the teachers from the Medical faculty are invited to give some lectures to the students of law in order to explain them the essence of the relevant medical procedures.

Depending on the students (whether they are future lawyers or doctors), the focus on the lectures is made on the legal or the medical aspects.

Law and Public Health • All the teachers involved in the lecturing process will have the possibility to take part in the examination process. • It is envisaged that in future, students from this course from the Faculty of law would be sent to the Medical faculty to hear some of the lectures there and vice-versa. In this case the first step in the mobility process would be made (inuniversity mobility of students and teachers).

Law and Public Health • The course represents the initial step in the development of this discipline in our country. • Further researches need to be made in order to detect and measure the breaches of the human rights. • Respectively, the curriculum and the textbook will be revised and amended and new contents will be introduced.
