Final Staff Survey Comments • The presentations were excellent. However, I have 3 preps and am slow to learn technology. I will try to apply more of what I learned from you next year • Thank you for doing a great job in introducing new technology into the 9 th grade team meetings! I looked forward to learning something new at our meetings! • one of the best parts of our team meetings; since I am an ""immigrant"" to the tech world, its takes a bit longer to figure out how to use various technologies and applications, but Sam is forever patient • I did not need Ms. Schleupner for setup. Her tech tips were pretty selfexplanatory. • Sam showed me numerous programs available, many of which I plan to explore over the summer • The tips were great. I just did not have or find the time to learn them first, then use them. It was nice to see what was out there, so for me the tips created an awareness. I just did not have time for more than that. Also I am a person that needs to actually "do" or hand-on "use" the technology several times before I own it. Sam was wonderful one-on-one and was always willing to help others with tech. tips or problems.

Overall Results & Lessons Learned • Teachers are willing to use more technology in their classrooms as long as the resources are available and mostly user-friendly • Most teachers enjoy technology professional development but feel like they do not have enough time to learn/play around with the technology to include it in their own instruction • Tech Tips will continue to be included at 9 th grade team meetings • Technology will continue to be integrated into 9 th grade activities • One-on-one sessions will still be available to encourage the use of technology in 9 th grade classes

Course Reflections My Graduate classes throughout the Educational Technology program at Loyola University greatly

Course Reflections My Graduate classes throughout the Educational Technology program at Loyola University greatly prepared me to be a technology leader in my school and to help with the demands of my technology internship. Click through the next few slides to see how each of my classes in the Edu Tech program helped me accomplishment my internship goals at Hammond High School.

Course Reflections ET 605 - Introduction to Educational Technology This class was the first

Course Reflections ET 605 - Introduction to Educational Technology This class was the first class I took in the Educational Technology cohort at Loyola University in the Spring of 2011. In this class, we reviewed the basics of many programs utilized in educational settings, such as the Microsoft office programs, web 2. 0 tools, and basic HTML skills. For instance, I set up my own classroom newsletter, Power. Point project, and basic website using introductory HTML coding. I really enjoyed this class because it let me be creative and create artifacts to demonstrate my learning of the materials as well as things I could use in my own classroom. This helped with my internship to teach me that even if the program is basic and most people have knowledge of it, not all people are comfortable using it in their own instruction. It is necessary to learn the basic steps slowly and reflectively in order to be able to teach them to other teachers.

Course Reflections ET 610 – Curricular Applications of Technology This class took place in

Course Reflections ET 610 – Curricular Applications of Technology This class took place in the Summer of 2011 and was an extension of the skills I learned or fine tuned in the ET 605 class. In this class we focused on many more tools we could utilize in the classroom, specifically more in depth Web 2. 0 tools. In addition to the assignments in ET 605, we created more assignments in this class that created more artifacts to demonstrate my knowledge of educational technology as well as to provide me with more resources to use in my own classroom. For instance, I created a revamped version of one of my current units that was enhanced with web 2. 0 tools and more creative technologies for teaching and having my students demonstrate their own knowledge. This class helped with my internship because it introduced me to some of the Web 2. 0 tools that I used in my presentation of tech tips to the 9 th grade team. It also helped me learn how to help other teachers formulate the usage of various technologies in their own classrooms.

Course Reflections AD 662 – Leadership, Supervision, & Staff Development I took this class

Course Reflections AD 662 – Leadership, Supervision, & Staff Development I took this class in the Summer of 2011 as well. This class was less focused on technology and was more focused on those leadership skills that are necessary when implementing programming and reforms in schools. We looked at various leadership theories and practices in education and the history of leadership development. We had to analyze research theories in school supervision and how those theories influenced the management and roles of building leaders. In particular, we had to research real life reforms that have taken place in education and evaluate whether or not they were effective. This was an important project because it helped us learn to look critically at reform and see the benefits and flaws in the implementation processes. This was especially important to help us with our internship and to prepare us for being a technology leader in our schools.

Course Reflections ED 670 – Teacher Research & Inquiry This class took place in

Course Reflections ED 670 – Teacher Research & Inquiry This class took place in the fall of 2011 and was one of the most difficult classes in the Educational Technology program at Loyola University. This class also took a step away from the technology aspect of the program and had us focus more on the research methods that are necessary in evaluating change processes and implementation of educational programs. In this class, we had to create a research proposal in which we would assess a technological aspect used in education and formulate a plan to assess its effectiveness and impacts on student achievement. This class opened my eyes to the different methods of evaluation and how these evaluations can be used to judge the effectiveness of technological advances and change.

Course Reflections ED 608 – Educational Innovations In the late winter of 2012, I

Course Reflections ED 608 – Educational Innovations In the late winter of 2012, I took the class Educational Innovations in which we studied various trends of reform in education. We looked at various school innovations throughout history and how their effects defined student achievement and theories on education. We looked at the philosophical and psychological assumptions that underlined movements away from traditional education and the change processes behind them. We also looked back on past movements in schooling and analyzed current and future innovations and their influences on education. We also focused heavily on the reforms of urban schools and looked at how these reforms were possibly different from those throughout the country. In this class, I reflected on an educational innovation utilized in my school, PBIS, as a movement to maintain positive behavior. In addition, I also made a public service announcement to promote the usage of i. Pads in the classroom, a technological innovation I felt would significantly improve education in all classrooms.

Course Reflections ET 680 – The Role of the Technology Leader I took this

Course Reflections ET 680 – The Role of the Technology Leader I took this class in the Spring of 2012 and I felt that this was one of the most beneficial classes of the entire program because it was the class that I felt truly prepared me for beginning the process of my internship. In this class, we learned about various theories that develop and influence technological change such as Ely's Conditions and the ACOT model of acceptance. Studying these theories helped me realize that technology changes cannot be thrown around on a whim, but that they will only be accepted and effective if certain conditions are present at one's school. This allowed me to begin the analysis of the current situation of technology acceptance at my own school to prepare for implementing my internship in the fall of that year. In addition to these different theories, we also research various funding opportunities and how technological change could be financially possible as well.

Course Reflections ET 631 – Distance Learning Education This class took place in the

Course Reflections ET 631 – Distance Learning Education This class took place in the late spring and early summer of 2012. I really enjoyed this class because it helped me look at technology and education from a different perspective. I had previously participated in distance education myself and was currently in the process of running my own online course, but this class actually opened my eyes to the needs to make online communication effective in education. We learned about the methods in which teachers previously taught through distances and the various theories, technologies, and issues of distance education. In this class, we had to formulate our own distance education lesson, with which we created an online professional development for teachers related to GAFE. We felt like distance education would be the beneficial way for teachers to participate in this professional development because it allowed for them to work on their own time and at their own pace. I also applied some of theories of distance learning we discussed in this class to my own philosophy of teaching and the ownership of students on their own learning.

Course Reflections ET 641 – Universal Design for Learning with Technology I took this

Course Reflections ET 641 – Universal Design for Learning with Technology I took this UDL focused class in the Summer of 2012. In this class I learned that not all technology relates to computers and/or handheld devices like I had been always focused on. In this class I learned about Low Tech and High Tech technologies and when and who they would be appropriate with in the educational setting. This significantly helped me gain a different perspective when it comes to using technology in inclusive classrooms with students of special needs. Many of the concepts and ideas I learned in this class have applied in my instruction of English and I felt like I've become better prepared when it comes to utilizing technology to meet the needs of all students, especially those who need tools beyond a pencil and paper. I was better able to help my staff with using technology to meet the needs of all students because of this class.

Course Reflections ET 620 – Multimedia Design in the Classroom I took this class

Course Reflections ET 620 – Multimedia Design in the Classroom I took this class in the summer of 2012, the last class before the implementation of my internship. This class lead me to learn about and focus on more advanced coding and digital practices of VBA Power. Points. We used VBA to formulate self prompted tasks in which we could have students work through an assignment based on the answers input into the programming. We also explored how to use i. Movie in instructional practices in my classes, and I even advanced one of my current projects, the personal narrative paper, to include a digital component of making a film version of the experience. This class helped me advance my lessons and the technologies I could share with my staff to include more digital and multimedia aimed projects and assessments.

Course Reflections ET 630 – Digital Communications in the Classroom This class took place

Course Reflections ET 630 – Digital Communications in the Classroom This class took place in the Spring of 2013 and had a focus on digital media and the information available in digital formats. In this class, we looked at the need for digital literacy and how important of a skill this is to pass on to students in any content area. My group and I formulated a project in which students would learn the skills necessary to evaluate the validity and accuracy of information posted in a digital format, in most cases online. We had students explore a technological issue and different perspectives on this issue. Through reading various articles, we had students evaluate the opinions of the material and the validity of the information based on the CRAP test of evaluating digital information. In this class, we also created a Web 2. 0 blog in which we were able to share Web 2. 0 tools with our classmates and comment on ways to use these technologies in instruction. This was a significant benefit of the class because many of the technologies that my classmates shared helped me to plan for my internship Tech Tips.

Course Reflections ET 690 – Educational Technology Seminar I took this class in the

Course Reflections ET 690 – Educational Technology Seminar I took this class in the Summer of 2013, and this class was my last of the Educational Technology master's program. In this class, we looked at technology in a critical manner. We stepped beyond technology only being a good thing and looked at its flaws in correlation with its benefits. In this class, we had to debate several technological issues and read several theories on how technology should be implemented in our world, specifically education. I felt like this class truly lead us to be technology leaders in our schools because we were blinded by the freshness or newness of the technologies. We recognized that various technologies can have many different impacts on society and on students. This class further prepared me to be a technology leader in my school because I felt like I could look at technology from a variety of perspectives and theories without letting my own bias cloud my judgment.
