General Information • Student must be 16 years old • “Embedded” courses are college

General Information • Student must be 16 years old • “Embedded” courses are college courses offered on the high school campus. • Students who take dual credit courses are beginning their college careers. This is a serious commitment and should only be entered into by those able to handle college-level work. • Students and parents should discuss dual credit plans with the student’s guidance counselor before approaching the school’s Dual Credit Counselor.

Grading Information • Dual Credit courses are reported as letter grades from Lone Star

Grading Information • Dual Credit courses are reported as letter grades from Lone Star College. The letter grades are converted to numerical grades in accordance with KISD policy when posted to the high school transcript if the class is taken at the Lone Star College Campus (face to face or online). A = 95 B = 85 C = 77 D = 72 • Students who earn a “D” will receive their high school credit, but cannot continue in the program for the remainder of high school. Students must earn at least a “C” to continue in the dual credit program

Grading Information • A semester of a college course with a grade of an “A” or a “B” will earn a Performance Acknowledgement on the student’s diploma and transcript. • Dual credit courses earn grade points on the 6 -point scale for GPA (AP/Pre-AP/DC/IB scale). • As this is not an “open enrollment” option once enrolled, a student is expected to complete a dual credit course.

Credit Information • Each passing grade for a 3 -hour college class equals one

Credit Information • Each passing grade for a 3 -hour college class equals one semester of high school credit. • Dual credit students will have a college transcript in addition to their high school transcript. • Prior to graduation, it is the student’s responsibility to request that the college transcript be sent from Lone Star College to the university of their choice. Students can request a transcript on their My. Lone. Star account. • Check the Texas Common Course Numbering System to determine what credit will be awarded at the college of choice for the credits earned at Lone Star College.

Cost of Dual Credit Course Current cost: On Klein ISD campus: $72 (3 credit hrs) $132 (6 credit hours) On LSC campus: $72 + $20 campus fee Online course: $72 + $15 per credit hour online fee Effective Fall 2009, tuition costs for in-district dual credit students are waived 100% (this does not include college fees and textbooks). Fees subject to change based on Lone Star College tuition rates.

Authorization to Release Student Information to Parent FERPA – Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act • Form must be signed BY THE STUDENT if a parent wants access to student grades. • If the parent is going to register for the student, the form must be received at the college by mail or fax and the STUDENT’S signature must be notarized. • Authorization is good for one year.
