Objectives • Identify the components of designing tech-rich lessons and how technology can be used to support learning objectives. • Design your own Digital Learning Wheel using Thinglink to reflect on which digital tools will support your learning activities. Step 1 LEARN Step 2 TRY Step 3 APPLY
Step 1 LEARN When used well, technology can make your teaching -- and students' learning -- more engaging, efficient, and effective. But do you have to scrap your tried-and-true lesson plans and start over? Not at all!
Step 1 LEARN How to Design Tech Rich Lessons Walk through this four-step lesson planning process, including: 1) envisioning and setting your goals, 2) engaging students and modeling instruction, 3) supporting independent practice and assessing students, and 4) reflecting on the lesson and evaluating your practice.
Step 1 LEARN Rethinking Lesson Activities The SAMR model, developed by Dr. Ruben Puentedura, helps teachers reflect on how they’re integrating technology. Is tech being used to substitute, augment, modify, or redefine lesson activities? Watch the following video and check out resources to learn more. https: //www. graphite. org/blog/samr-and-blooms-taxonomy-assembling-the-puzzle
Step 1 LEARN SAMR Model
These are apps and sites that have the capacity to go beyond SAMRs S(ubstitution) and A(ugmentation) and move toward M(odifcation) and R(edifinition)
Step 2 TRY So, now what do you do? Create your own "Digital Learning Wheel, " based on Alan Carrington's Padagogy Wheel. Here you can try your hand at aligning digital tools to classroom activities with Bloom's Taxonomy.
Step 2 TRY Communication and Collaboration Tools
Step 2 TRY Creativity Tools
Step 2 TRY Creativity Tools
Step 2 TRY Design Your Own Digital Learning Wheel Create your own graphic organizer to help you align your choice of digital tools to your learning objectives
Step 2 TRY 1. Check out the Padagogy Wheel • First, take a look at Alan Carrington's Padagogy Wheel. He visually outlines higher-order thinking skills based on Bloom's Taxonomy, to robust student objective action verbs, to classroom activities, to i. Pad apps -- all of which is aimed at getting educators to redefine their lesson planning. • Now reflect on your own students' needs. Which tools do you agree with? Which would you change based on your classroom needs? http: //www. unity. net. au/allansportfolio/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Wheel_only_V 4_Low. Rez_650 x 650. jpg
Step 2 TRY 2. Create Your Own Digital Learning Wheel • Since every classroom has different needs, we know you probably need to revise the outer ring! Think about which devices you have, what budget you have, and what learning needs your students have. • Start your project by going to Thinglink. com
Step 2 TRY
Step 2 TRY 2. Create Your Own Digital Learning Wheel • Now copy this version of a Digital Learning Wheel into Thing. Link. https: //www. graphite. org/sites/default/files/tlrasset/digital_learning_wheel_pdf. pdf
Step 2 TRY 2. Create Your Own Digital Learning Wheel • Now go discover new tools on Graphite! You may want to look back at the Padagogy Wheel for inspiration, or take a look at some thematic Top Picks lists. • Finally, go back to your Thing. Link image and add links to your chosen products into the outer ring.
Step 2 APPLY Infuse technology: • Pick a technology or pick a lesson • Start small – you don’t have to redesign your entire curriculum • Contact your Teacher Technology Leader • Contact your Technology Integration Coach • Tami Stewart • tstewart@newberry. k 12. sc. us
