About the Work Area The role sits in the Digital And Analysis (D&A) directorate. Our directorate has three high level objectives: • To shape and support, through evidence, delivery of MMO services and ambitions that are fit for the future and to be able to evaluate their effectiveness • To be able to develop and own technology and digital systems and services that are modern, fit for purpose, customer-centric and affordable • To turn the MMO into a truly data and evidence-driven organisation Within D&A the role is in the Statistics and Analysis Team. We are a team of 12 analysts working to maximise the value of the data gathered across the MMO. The administrative data available for our work is vast and detailed, including daily catch records from logbooks, satellite tracking, compliance activities and enforcement outcomes. This wide variety of data enables us to provide almost real-time analysis using innovative methods. Our interest and involvement spans the range of MMO functions from fisheries negotiations through to data for assessments of fishing stocks. We work closely with colleagues in DEFRA and across the UK’s nations to coordinate policy development, enhance data quality and refine analytical methods. EU Exit has profound impacts on marine and fisheries policy. Our team has been working hard to maximise opportunities and minimise risks by providing crucial analytical support and evidence. In summary, there has never been a more interesting time to join the team and use your analytical skills to shape a sustainable future for our marine ecosystems.
