What is candidate experience Candidate experience is defined as the perception of a job seeker about an employer, based on the interaction during the complete recruitment process. This includes all points of contact during recruitment – job search, the application process, interview process and onboarding. The perception of a company can start from word of mouth, social media, advertising campaigns, knowing the product or service. If you company has little or no branding, how are candidates finding you? If you have bad perception, how are you fixing that perception? If you are perceived well, how are you standing out? Who are your candidates To decide how you are going to perceived you have to make sure you think about who do you want to see your brand how you want your brand received. Are you thinking about clients, customers, potential employees, current employees, community, competitors or other industry leaders to become employees or to become leaders. What type of demographics do you want to attract? Do you want to start a diversity and inclusion effort? What type of candidate are you hiring? Do you have high turnover, if so why? Are you the top employer in your industry? How is your current applicant flow? How long does it take you to fill each job? Deciding who your candidates are will help you focus your efforts as well as be able to create an experience that is more unique that what other companies are doing

Why should a candidate choose your company At every stage of contact that you have with a potential candidate you have to ask yourself why should they choose our company vs. the 1, 000’s of other companies out there. If you label yourself as “top workplaces” how does your candidate experience translate to a employees experience there. If you are not a “top workplace” what is keeping you from achieving that. You want a candidate to experience your company, not just interview. An interview is a just a dialogue between you (the company) and the potential employee. If you take your interview and turn it into an experience you have put yourself in a situation where the candidate is more likely to accept the position. There are other factors that play into someone accepting an offer such as money, location, opportunity, titles, but that should be taken care of in the phone screen before they even come in and interview. That is why creating an experience is so important.
