Your Assignment • In groups of 2 or 3 create a poster raising awareness to the importance of living an active, healthy lifestyle (What is an active healthy lifestyle? ? ) • Your posters will be put up around the school so take your time making them and do the best you can • Your poster should be captivating and meaningful (what does this mean? ? ) • Include a motto!! • Time Limit: 35 minutes

What is Physical Activity? • Any bodily movement produced by your body that takes more energy than daily functioning (anything “extra” you do in a day)
What is Active Living? • A way of life in which physical activity is valued and done daily (on a regular basis) • Active Living Motto – “Move more… Sit Less”

Set SMART goals • S – Specific: know exactly what you want to achieve • M – Measurable: how will you know that the goal has been reached • A – Attainable: make sure your goal is possible • R – Rewarding: what is in it for you to keep working at the goal? • T – Timely: set a date that you would like to achieve your goal by. This way you have a benchmark to work towards

What is the difference between: • Physical Activity – What you do in your leisure time, methods of transportation (walking, cycling), housework (cleaning your room) and work duties like lifting boxes • Exercise – Is usually planned (you make time for it) – Is structured (organized) – Is repetitive (do it on a regular basis) • Fitness – Physical conditioning based on endurance, flexibility and strength – Power, speed, balance and reaction time

Exercise is? • F – Frequency (number of times per week) • I – Intensity (how hard, difficult or challenging the activity is performed) • T – Time or duration of activity • T – Type of activity (running, swimming, lifting weights, dance, etc. ) FITT formula
Intensity • Moderate Activities – You should be able to talk but singing will be difficult – Mowing the lawn – Walking briskly – Cycling leisurely • Vigorous Activities – Having a conversation would be difficult – Cycling uphill – Running stairs – High intensity aerobics – Swimming multiple laps
