What can we do for the emergent reader? ★ Read aloud…daily!!!! ★ Time handling books!! ★ Time working with letters and names. ★ Time spent writing interactively with an adult. ○ Ex: Write a letter to a family member or write a story about something fun you as a family did during the summer.
Working with Letters ★ Why trace an Alphabet Book? ● Children who cannot identify at least 40 upper-and lowercase letters in the alphabet (26 upper, 26 lower) and do not have more than 8 letter sounds, should trace an alphabet book every day. ● The sooner children learn the names of letters, the sooner they will benefit from guided reading.
