What is HOSA? HOSA is the premier organization for student leaders pursuing careers in the healthcare industry. HOSA’s two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people.

History of HOSA Founded in 1976 as Health Occupations Students of America, HOSA reaches

History of HOSA Founded in 1976 as Health Occupations Students of America, HOSA reaches over 245, 000 members each year in 4, 100 middle school, secondary and postsecondary/collegiate chapters across the nation and around the world. Florida HOSA was founded in 1978 and is the second largest State Association in the nation with close to 18, 000 members!

Competition The events in the Middle School Division are designed to promote leadership development

Competition The events in the Middle School Division are designed to promote leadership development and introduce students to health-related skills. The emphasis is on basic academic skills, establishing health science goals, critical thinking skills, poise, and situational problem solving. Middle Schools compete at the regional, state and international levels. All HOSA members are required to compete at regionals. The top 3 competitors in each category at regionals will compete at the state conference. The top 3 in each category at state will advance to internationals.

Dress Code Official Uniform • Tailored navy blazer with emblem affixed over the heart. • Shirt/blouse for females (white tailored or short-sleeve white jewel neck shell • Shirt for males—white closed-neck, man-tailored dress shirt, suitable for use with a tie • Accent for female members - maroon HOSA scarf or tie is optional but not required • Accent for male members - navy or maroon long tie • Matching navy slacks for males and matching navy slacks or skirts for females • Closed-toe blue or black shoes (hose optional) OR Business Attire • Black or navy blue suit • White shirt • Closed-toe blue or black shoes (hose optional) • Male members MUST wear a tie. • Female members may choose to wear knee-length skirt or slacks.

Code of Conduct • A good reputation enables members to take pride in their organization. HOSA members have an excellent reputation. Members’ conduct during class and at any HOSA function should make a positive contribution to the reputation that has been established.

Code of Conduct • Students will need to maintain a GPA of 2. 5,

Code of Conduct • Students will need to maintain a GPA of 2. 5, no 3’s or 4’s in citizenship, and no referrals to remain in this club. If repeated redirection is necessary during club meetings, students may be subject to disciplinary action including removal from this club. Students are also required to adhere to the HOSA Code of Conduct at all times. Failure to do so may also result in the student being removed from HOSA. If a student incurs 2 or more R. I. S. E. Card signatures in a quarter, he/she may be banned from field trips and competitions for the remainder of that grading period.
