The Problem… Work flow control in a high school newsroom

The Problem… The average student produces 320 pounds of paper waste per year (Emory University). An average-size school with 30 students per class hands out about 833 pieces of paper student per year. That school uses 250, 000 pieces of paper annually. That school spends about $7, 500 per year on printing on this paper and $25, 000 on the paper itself (Johnson).

The Problem… With Learning Management Systems’ growing use on college campuses, students must be prepared.

The Solution… ACTUAL Work flow control, fewer print-outs and giving students a tech leg up in higher education

The Solution… Allows real-time editing and collaboration on a document, like so…

Google Documents: What is it? A rich suite of web tools for creating and sharing word processing, presentation and spreadsheet documents.

Google Documents: Where is it? DOCS. GOOGLE. COM; Must have Google account

Google Documents: How does it work? “Word” without Microsoft; Power. Point and Excel, too.

Google Documents: How does it work? Traditional groups/teams working on a document make changes and pass it on to the next person. How does each member know what the others are doing/have done at any given

Google Documents: How does it work? Allows a work group to work together on a document stored “in the cloud. ” All group members have real-time access to the document at all times.

Google Documents: How do you do it? 1. If you do not have a Gmail account, get one here: mail. google. com/mail/signup. Your Youtube account can also be used for Gmail. 2. Log in to Docs. Google. Com 3. Click on FILE PICKER, the file folder in the upper right corner.

Google Documents: How do you do it? 4. Click on UPLOAD to choose your file from your hard drive or jump drive. You can dither drag files into the picker or manually select the file.

Google Documents: How do you do it? 5. 6. Once file is uploaded, go to the SHARE button and share the document with LOGIN@DOMAIN. XXX. Make sure the box to the right of my name says, “CAN EDIT. ” I will receive an email directing me to the file and the time it was submitted.
