Particle physics research in Italy Particle and nuclear physics research in Italy is financed

Particle physics research in Italy Particle and nuclear physics research in Italy is financed and managed from INFN (Istituto Nazionale per la Ricerca Nucleare). INFN is organized in 20 local sections + 4 National laboratories. The research in divided in 5 branches, named Commisioni Scienttifiche Nazionali (CSN), according to the subject of research: CSN 1 - experimental research with accelerators CSN 2 - experimental research without accelerators CSN 3 - Nuclear Physics CSN 4 - Theoretical physics CSN 5 – R&D projects The INFN Pisa section is one of the largest sections and has activities in all the CSN. Activities in CSN 1 in Pisa are in CMS, , LHCb, NA 62, Belle. II and ATLAS Pisa group meeting – 29. 1. 2013 C. Roda – ATLAS - Universita` & INFN Pisa 2

The detector activities in the ATLAS Pisa group The group has participated to ATLAS

The detector activities in the ATLAS Pisa group The group has participated to ATLAS since the Letter of Intent time (1992). The historical group has participated to the R&D, project, construction and operation of the central hadronic calorimeter section Tile. Cal. We have developed a monitoring program for the Tile. Cal TB that has then been exported to the whole ATLAS. With this project we have started a collaboration with the computer science students. About ten years ago the group that has developed the tracking trigger for the inner CDF detector (SVT) has proposed to ATLAS the trigger upgrade FTK and the members of FTK have joined the ATLAS group. After the end of the Tevatron Run part of the CDF group has joined ATLAS. Main expertise on inner detector and top/ewk analysis. The group interest on the detector side are shared on two main items: Tile. Cal and FTK ATLAS Pisa group meeting – 29. 1. 2013 C. Roda – ATLAS - Universita` & INFN Pisa 4

Summary The activities in the ATLAS Pisa groups are growing both on the detector

Summary The activities in the ATLAS Pisa groups are growing both on the detector and analysis side. The role held up to now in the analysis needs for new man-power both the diboson and H tautau analysis Our aim is to do our best to exploit the new power given by the FTK upgrade.
