Persistence of Vision Theory which states that the human eye always retains images for a fraction of a second (around 0. 04 second). This means that everything we see is a subtle blend of what is happening now and what happened a fraction of a second ago. Persistence of vision plays a role in keeping the world from going pitch black every time we blink our eyes. Whenever light strikes the retina, the brain retains the impression of that light for about a 10 th to a 15 th of a second afterwards. When we go to the movies, we know that a motion picture creates an illusion of movement by flashing individual photographs in rapid succession.

Frame Rates The number of images photographed per second is referred to as the frame rate of the movie and is measured in frames per second (fps). The more frames recorded per second, the more accurately motion can be seen. When the frame rate of a movie is too low, your mind will no longer be convinced that the contents of the movie are continuous, and the movie will appear to jump (also called strobing).

If you play back frames at a speed different from the original recording speed, you can create effects such as time lapse and slow motion. The higher the frame rate the slower you can make your film. Example of higher frame rate comparison – coins dropping http: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=Ck 7 us. ULvza. M

Stop Frame Movement of an object is captured one frame at time, with physical objects that are moved between frames. When you play back the sequence of images rapidly, it creates the illusion of movement.
