Targeted Learning Moments (TLM) Initiative • A collaboration of educators, technologists and funders • TLM- A Next Generation Learning Initiative using technology to accelerate & personalize student learning. • TLM pushes out information on student progress to students, parents & teachers- giving real time feedback on student understanding and suggesting resources targeted to the abilities of each child. • TLM uses a classroom app known as Kandoolu

Building Blocks of TLM 1. Assessments- Kandoolu contains quality assessment items aligned to the PA Core Eligible Content at a high level of rigor- used to regularly “check for understanding. ” 2. Resources- Kandoolu will automatically recommend targeted resources for teachers to use. These include websites, videos, practice items, games, apps and lesson plans that quality teachers have vetted. 3. Technology- Kandoolu is web based and works on all major mobile devices. The goal is to have it work both as a standalone system and connected to the Ed. Insight System.

Why TLM and Kandoolu? • Teachers/Administrators have less time- push out data • TLM is the opposite of the high stakes tests- it focuses on formative assessment. A “KLT” teacher can improve student learning by regularly checking for understanding • Knowing what students don’t know is only part of the story- providing different resources is also important • Making Kandoolu work on all major mobile devices is a key part of the effort

Implementation Timeline • May 2016 - Classroom testing for math grades 3 -8 • Fall 2016 - Pilot Math for grades 3 -8 • January 2017 - Roll out to all districts for grades 3 -8 • February 2017 - Classroom Testing other Math grades (K -2 and Algebra I, II, Geometry) • May 2017 - Classroom testing for ELA Grades 1 -8 • Fall 2017 - Pilot Math for other grades and ELA 1 -8 • Late Fall of 2017 - Roll out to all districts

Because foundation funding is supporting this initiative, OHS will make the TLM Module available at no extra cost to qualifying districts in the ten SWPA counties. • In order to qualify, these districts must have the entire Ed. Insight Instructional Management Suite. • The free period runs through the end of the 2019 -2020 school year. • Approximately 2/3 rds of the districts in the 10 counties of SWPA use the OHS software system.
