Context for Action OSAP is a needs-based assistance program composed of loans and grants to help qualified students and their families with the cost of postsecondary studies. In recent years, the government has introduced changes to make OSAP simpler and fairer for students. While these changes have resulted in more than double the number of students accessing OSAP over the past 12 years, there remains a concern that students from lower income families continue to participate in PSE at much lower rates than those from higher income families. Defining Period for the Canadian Economy The world is entering the 4 th industrial revolution Canada needs stronger growth to: • maintain our standard of living • meet future public service delivery costs • keep taxes comparatively low The Canadian economy is rapidly transitioning to a knowledge economy We’re approaching an inflection point – what’s needed to sustain growth?
The Key Question for Institutions “If the fourth industrial revolution will be the next generation for industry, what does the next generation of post-secondary education look like? ” SAIT - Dr. David Ross, President,
IF WE WANT TO VALUE EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING WE NEED TO CHANGE THE WAY WE FUND! Focus on enrolment and learning in the classroom. Outdated model. 24 Small “e” experiential learning from $0 to a small fraction of funding. Some institutions are doing this well, but the model needs to support opportunities for all.
