ICT for language teaching Speaking Ø Internet: provide real, authentic language input for speaking activities save time, money and T’s energy (model activity) Ø Chat (CMC: computer mediated communication) ü Very similar to spoken discourse ü Ss have time to think shy Ss can join actively ü Real-life communication good preparation for future work and learning environment Ø Large bandwidth video and audio conferencing

ICT for language teaching Writing • Criterion writing: reduce workload for teachers in marking. • Win. Word spelling and grammar checker • Email exchange, discussion forum • Writing projects: designing websites, leaflets

ICT for language teaching Reading • Some useful software packages: English Study, Langmaster, English Discoveries, BBC English • Internet-based-reading (on-line reading): interactive exercises, immediate responses.

ICT for language teaching Listening • Jigsaw listening & video watching : only in multimedia lab, highly interactive movie bank • Sound editing software: allow for sound editing, fast seeking and looping no need for rewinding and fast forwarding (demo Vegas Video) • Some useful software: English Study, Langmaster , English Discoveries, BBC English most important usage for multimedia lab

ICT for language teaching Grammar • Teachers can create interactive grammar quizzes or game shows with some software (Hot Potatoes, Quiz Maker, Exam, Teaching Templates etc. ) • Huge databases of grammar practice exercises on the Internet save a lot of time and efforts for Ts • Sample grammar PBL projects in the English Department
