NARRATIVE POETRY Narrative Poetry tells a story. These poems don’t have any rhyme or rhythm in common but may have one all of their own. They may be funny or serious. One of the most popular narrative poems with Year 3 classes is Michael Rosen’s Chocolate Cake. Michael Rosen is also known for how he performs his poems. He doesn’t just tell them, he brings them alive. As you watch this video, think about how Michael Rosen uses his face, body and his voice to tell the story. YOUR TASK There are many other different kinds of poetry , we have just looked at a few. Your task now is to find a poem that you like – either online or in a book – and practise saying it out loud. Choose one that you enjoy (it can be any type) and really try to bring it to life as you speak. You could even try and learn it off by heart. When you are confident that you can perform it well, video yourself saying your poem and upload it to Seesaw. We have talked many times in class about what to remember when you are speaking to an audience but here are some tips from Michael Rosen. Have fun choosing your poem!
