PERRY HIGH SCHOOL STEM DIPLOMA STEM SCHOLAR DIPLOMA (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)
OBJECTIVE n To offer the most rigorous academic program available for ALL students whose interest is in the engineering, math and science fields. The STEM Diploma offers a blend of classroom course work and real world experience along with project based learning. Students will be exposed to a comprehensive college prep program for careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine, and Mathematics.
REQUIREMENTS n n CUSD graduation requirements-22 credits STEM diploma and STEM Scholar diploma requirements-23 credits n n 5 credits of Mathematics (Including AP Statistics) 6 credits of Science or 6 credits of Science/Engineering/CS n (4 of the 6 must be in Biology, Chemistry and Physics) 4 credits of English n 3 credits of Social Studies n 2 credits of World Language n 1 credit of Fine Arts n. 5 credit of Health n 1 credit of Physical Education 1 summer STEM workshop at PHS- Freshman or Sophomore summers Must submit a Science Fair project for HISEF during freshman year Honors Biology class 1 summer STEM Experience…Junior summer n n n n Job Shadowing STEM workshop (Educational Institution) STEM Activity (Non Educational Institution) Students must maintain a 3. 5 weighted GPA for the STEM Diploma and a 3. 8 weighted GPA for the STEM Scholar Diploma n Students who fall below GPA minimums would be put on probation for a semester. Failure to raise their GPA above the minimum at the conclusion of the semester will result in removal from the program.

RECOGNITION n n STEM students will receive an additional diploma at graduation STEM students will be noted in the graduation program as a STEM diploma recipient STEM students will be given a hood to wear at graduation, color dependent upon program taken STEM students will indicate the program on their college admission applications
CAREER CENTER/COORDINATOR SUPPORT n One counselor is assigned to track and assist students throughout their 4 years in the program n n n Fred Mann: STEM coordinator Students work with the Career Center to apply for college admission and scholarships Counselor/Coordinator assists students with applying for summer workshops and STEM experience Counselor/Coordinator assists students in enrolling in online courses and off-campus courses from the Focus menu. Counselor maintains credits checks and GPA checks to ensure students’ success in the program
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS n Students in the program will be required to: n Complete AP exams in all AP classes they take n n Take the PSAT and SAT or ACT tests n n Dual Enrollment? Must take PSAT test in the Fall of their Junior year even if they have taken it as a Freshman or Sophomore Apply for university admission
PROGRAM COSTS n n n AP Exams are $95. 00 per exam Dual Enrollment for college credit is $85. 00 per credit hour plus $15 registration fee each semester College courses taken at CGCC are $85. 00 per credit hour plus $15 registration fee each semester Fees for summer workshops at PHS Possible STEM Experience fees Financial assistance may be available
