Lesson 7: What can I do? Part one Learning objectives 1. Name the 6 Rs and explain what each one means 2. Understand developments in technology and innovation regarding plastics pollution 3. Identify what actions different people or groups can do 4. Reflect on how they can make a difference 5. Work collaboratively to plan a plastics campaign

Lesson 7: What can I do? Part one The 6 Rs Reduce Recycle Reuse Refuse Rethink Repair

Lesson 7: What can I do? Part one The 6 Rs: Reduce Me & My Community: Reduce the number of products they buy or consider buying products which use less energy. My World: Design products which use less materials, use less energy to produce and use less packaging during transport.

Lesson 7: What can I do? Part one The 6 Rs: Recycle Me & My Community: Ensure all products that can be recycled are disposed of in the correct way. Choose retailers that support recycling. My World: Design products that use recycled materials or ensure their products are recyclable.

Lesson 7: What can I do? Part one The 6 Rs: Reuse Me & My Community: Choose products which can be reused such as printer cartridges which can be refilled. Sell or donate products they no longer use themselves. My World: Consider how a product can be dismantled at the end of its life so the parts may be reused.

Lesson 7: What can I do? Part one The 6 Rs: Refuse Me and My Community: Refuse products that are inefficient, in use or use of materials. Refuse products if the packaging creates too much waste. My World: Consider how the consumer will react to their products; will they refuse them?

My World: Design products which can be repaired, replacing part of a product rather than the whole thing. Choose manufacturers who facilitate repairing goods rather than replacing.
