TAKE NOTES!!! Main idea Evidence Analysis Tie up
Main Idea (a. k. a topic sentence) can reword the question you are addressing into a statement Evidence (a direct quote) must directly reflect the main idea. The quote HAS to support the main idea and nothing else Analysis (in your own words) explains the quote and its connection to the main idea ***usually 3 -4 sentences. Tie up (or transition sentence if writing an essay) makes final summary and conclusions about main idea ***Be careful not to sound too repetitive!

Schools should block the use of Youtube in classrooms all across the country. “Teens spend approximately 15% of their time on media-related websites at home” (Courie). There is just not enough time in class to be wasted on such sites.
Adding some MEAT to our writing! Schools should block the use of Youtube in classrooms all across the country. “Teens spend approximately 15% of their time on mediarelated websites at home” (Courie). These statistics indicate that teens already explore media-related websites on their own. Such a high percentage suggests that teens get their “fill” of media- based information outside of the classroom. Therefore, the time spent in school should only be focused on books, reading, and writing. Adding to the 15% of media-related time is just a waste for students and doesn’t benefit them in any way. There is just not enough time in class to be misused on such sites.
