Grading Method for Homework Criteria for Note Taking Mastered Needs some work Main point selection Not too many points Not too few points In this column I write things that the student has done correctly or well. In this column I write suggestions for improvement. Detail selection Chose the details that explain the main points Arrangement Main points and details are clearly different Can see which details go with which main point It is not just a list Paraphrased Used your own words Did not copy from the text • Students create notes for most reading assignments. This rubric is used for “regular” notes (not maps or charts) • 100%. I give students ALL the points plus feedback for the first few assignments. This rewards them for turning in work and gives them much needed practice. • I spend a few minutes the next day going over this rubric and having students compare each other’s notes. They also make plans to improve on the next day’s notes. Linda Russell Reading 2015 • Yes, it is a lot of work for me at first, but the result is I get better quality work from my students, much faster than I used to. That ultimately makes my workload lighter.
All students will rise to the occasion when given an important task. This class built these basic refrigeration trainers in 2003 that we still use today. Greg Skudlarek HVAC 2014
