Maundy Thursday Eucharist of the Lord’s Supper

Lord God, your love has called us here, as we, by love, for love were made. Your living likeness still we bear, though marred, dishonoured, disobeyed. We come with all our heart and mind your call to hear, your love to find.

We come with self-inflicted pains of broken trust and chosen wrong, half-free, half-bound by inner chains, by social forces swept along, by powers and systems close confined, yet seeking hope for humankind.

Lord God, in Christ you call our name, and then receive us as your own, not through some merit, right or claim, but in your gracious love alone. We strain to glimpse your mercy seat, and find you kneeling at our feet.

Then take the towel, and break the bread, and humble us and call us friends. Suffer and serve till are fed, and show grandly love intends to work till all creation sings, to fill all worlds, to crown all things.

Lord God, in Christ you set us free your life to live, your joy to share. Give us your Spirit's liberty to turn from guilt and dull despair and offer all that faith can do, while love is making all things new. Words: Brian Wren Tune: Melita CCLI 202156

Prayer of the People The response to the prayers: God of grace hear us and humble us

Holy God, Our hands were unclean, our hearts were unprepared; we were not fit even to eat the crumbs from under Your table. But You, Lord, are the God of our salvation, and share Your bread with sinners. So cleanse us and feed us challenge us and change us that he may live in us and we in him; and that we, with the whole company of Christ, may feast in Your kingdom. Amen

Reception of the Oils The Oil of the Sick May the sick who are anointed with this oil experience the company and compassion of Christ who journeys with us through the narrow gate of illness and death to make us whole and holy. Blessed be God forever.

The Holy Chrism Through anointing with this perfumed Chrism may all those reborn in the waters of holy baptism be sealed and saved, and all things belonging to the Spirit live and grow in them. Blessed be God forever.

THE TABLE Prayer over the Gifts At the Eucharist we are with our crucified and raised Lord. We know that it was not only our ancestors, but we who were redeemed and brought forth from bondage to freedom, from mourning to feasting. We know that as he was with them in the upper room so our Lord is here with us now. Until the kingdom of God comes let us celebrate the feast.

Holy Communion

Prayer after Communion Into one we are all gathered through the love of Christ. Let us then rejoice with gladness. In him we find love. Let us fear and love the living God, and love and cherish each other Where charity and love are, there is God.

Therefore, when we are together in the love of Christ, let our minds know no division, strife, or bitterness. May the Christ, our blessed Saviour, be in our midst. Through Christ our Lord all love is found. Where charity and love are, there is God.

May we see Your face in glory, Christ our loving Teacher. With the blessed saints of heaven, give us lasting joy. We will then possess true happiness, and love for all eternity. Where charity and love are, there is God.

We hail your presence glorious, O Christ our great high priest, O’er sin and death victorious At your thanksgiving feast: As you are interceding For us in heaven above, Your church on earth is pleading Your perfect work of love.
