'Let me give you a new command. Love one another. In the same way as I loved you, love one another. This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples …' John 13 34 -35

DO we love one another?

DO we deserve Jesus' love?

The Last Supper was held on the eve of Passover when the Jews remembered the start of the return journey to Israel from exodus in Egypt. For Jesus it was doubly significant. 'You've no idea how much I have I looked forward to eating this Passover meal with you before I enter my time of suffering. It is the last one I'll eat until we all eat together in the Kingdom of God. ' Luke 22 v 14 -16

'Taking bread, he blessed it, broke it, and gave it to them saying 'This is my body, given for you. Eat it in my memory. ' He did the same with cup after supper saying, 'This cup is the new covenant written in my blood, blood poured out for you'. Luke 22 v 17 -19

God loves us unconditionally. Jesus' sacrifice was made willingly out of love for us. Through our covenant with God we can be disciples worthy of Jesus' love. Bonhoeffer's words do give us food for thought though.
