Blogs The blog page serves many purposes, one of which is to provide an opportunity for students to ask any questions they may have on the material. The blogs are also used to communicate with the instructor and offer suggestions and comments about the site. Parents will be asked to use this page to provide an informal evaluation of the site. How well is it working for your child, is learning taking place, is the material too difficult or too easy, is there enough practice provided? Students may also post their own evaluation of the site as well. **Please remember when using the blog to practice good “Netiquette”. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Postings should be free of profanity/inappropriate language. Remember that this communication is as if you were in a classroom. Remember there are others who will read your posts.
Practice Students will find practice problems for the applications on the site. There will be a link to open the worksheets and students will be able to complete and return the worksheets via e-mail to the instructor. The instructor will grade and return the assignment also via email. If there any questions in regards to the assignments, please post them on the blog. Many of the tutorial sites will also have practice problems. Students should complete these problems to help them master or improve their skills. There also links to game sites that offer practice of the material and students are encouraged to visit these as well.
Pre-Test/Survey The purpose of the pre-test is to evaluate the effectiveness of the site. In other words did the site help prepare the student for Algebra/Geometry? A post-test will be given in the fall and the two scores will then be compared. Please remember to complete the online survey. This is also a means by which to evaluate the website in regards to appropriate material presented, amount of practice/tutorials and was the site effective in preparing students for the fall. **Completion of the blogs and survey are very important also in terms of whether or not the site will continue throughout the 2009 -2010 school year.
Conclusion I hope this website will be beneficial to parents and students alike. I welcome your comments and suggestions on improving the site so that we continue to work together to improve students performance and learning.
