Teachers As Role Models v. Teachers are founts of experience. They have already been where their students are going along lessons; not only regarding subject matter, but lessons on life

v. A role model is a person who inspires and encourages us to strive

v. A role model is a person who inspires and encourages us to strive for greatness. A role model is someone we admire and someone we aspire to be like. v We look to them for advice and guidance. v A role model can be anybody: a parent, a sibling, a friend but some of our most influential and life-changing role models are teachers.

After their parents, children will first learn from us, as their elementary school teacher. Then, as a middle school teacher, we will guide students through their education lives. v. How to cope with problems related to students psychologically demanding v In Turkish Education , three is a « 6 - S rules « that a teacher must have in his personality to use for students: Sevgi(Love), Saygı (Respect ) , Sabır( Patience), Sadakat (faith) , Sempati(sympathy) and Sagduyu (foreseing) v. By using one or a few of them , a teacher should catch any problem with the student. Or else the students create some visible problem-like behaviours to give the message to be realized and felt. : v. They might create different repeated actions like, coughing , sleeping on the desk , laughing everything nonsence, and trying to make the teacher angry but his message is again ‘ please see /feel me that I have some problems for your help. .

On this point I had a short interview with the expert of Psychological Counceling and Guidance Service, and she told me that as a role model the students would prefere reflect about their problems using one above. v when a teacher meet one of the above messages, he should create a face to face dialogue with the psychological demanding student and he should start a warm and efficient listening , to understand the basis of the problem whether it’s a family, health or school based problem. v We usually start with ‘ you don’t look well recently, you look tired and I’m worried about you. Could I help you? ’ We should listen to them and then begin to ask basic questions about his/her parents, health, school subjects etc. to try to find the reason. v And if the problem is too serious for us to help we (the teachers) should tell about the students to the PCG Service.

They invite or contact to the parents on phone to learn if the student has any health problems since the birth. v If the problem goes beyond the PCG Service they persuade the family to contact a psychiatrist or an expert psycholog at a hospital. Then the duration goes on in form of trivet until the happy end.
