What did we do? ØWorked with relevant agencies to create a centralized toll-free number and process • • Iowa Department of Public Health Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals 101 Local Public Health Departments Selected 1 -844 -IOWA-SIC ØEngaged a marketing and communications firm to assist in development of messaging and materials

The Problem ØWhen compared nationally, Iowa is finding fewer foodborne illnesses. ØDifficult for the public to figure out which agency to report potential foodborne illnesses to. • Peer reviewed journal article identified this as a challenge to reporting. ØIdentified as an area concern of Iowa food safety agencies during CIFOR toolkit evaluation process. ØLack of awareness about foodborne illness by the general public.

Call, It’s Easy!” ØCreated supporting materials: 30 second TV public service announcement (PSA) 30 second radio public service announcement (PSA) Print public service announcement for newspapers (PSA) 4. 5 minute You. Tube type video for website Leaflet discussing foodborne illness reporting and prevention Magnets for distribution to key markets Uniform Power. Point presentation for use by stakeholders for service club and community presentations • 11 X 17 posters for use in public health departments, doctors offices, and community locations • Tweets on foodborne illness • • ØUsed marketing and communications firm to assist in placement of PSA
