What is the Purpose of my Speech ?
I have 7 minutes to give a message to the world. What’s the best message that I can give ?
There is only one source for this. Have a conversation with yourself Recollect Experiences that taught you some valuable lessons Pick the one that appeals to you the most. Put that message in a single line That’s the core purpose of the speech
Trust your Heart. . It works
Most important aspects of the Speech
Focus on Audience & Message not on Judges and Victory Win over the audience… Judges too are a part of the audience.
This is how you are judged Content (50 total) 20 points: Speech Development 15 points: Speech Effectiveness 15 points: Speech Value Delivery (30 total) 10 points: Physical 10 points: Voice 10 points: Manner Language (20 total) 10 points: Appropriateness 10 points: Correctness Do read the judges ballot before you start writing your speech.
LOCK the Content Have 100% clarity on the following Lead --- Mostly You Obstacle / Objective Characters & their contribution Knock out Punch Compelling opening (set the basic traits of lead here) The purpose (at least a hint) of the speech must come out in the first 2 minutes. Build characters in the body. Save the knock out for the fifth minute and conclude with in the 1. 5 minutes of the Knock out.
Some tips on the content • One who looks outside dreams. One how looks inside awakens. Send the lead on an inward journey and your audience will love it, they will have a great take home value. • Have a strong logical flow to the speech, the events must be placed in an order that makes the lead wiser and less wayward as the speech progresses. • Don’t have more than 3 stories in the speech. • Try to have the speech within 650 -700 words. • Humor enhances your speech but don’t have humor for the sake of it.
Delivery of the Speech Read cc 2 -cc 6 of the TM manual before you complete your final draft of the speech. While you would definitely have a planned body language and voice modulation , practice it in front of an audience and a mentor to get things right. This section is very subjective to each person and I advise that you work this with your mentor. Physical appearance , Voice and Manner carry 10 points each in this section, focus CC 5 and CC 6 and work with your mentor to figure out as to what is appropriate for your speech.
Language Avoid Jargon. Please have your speech reviewed by a person who is good at English Grammar. If you are not sure of your grammar skills, please try remembering the sentences as is. Short sentences can save the day. Refer cc 4 in the manual.
Rehearse …. Rehearse , Rehearse. . Rehearse till your jaws ache and the body refuses to take any more body language. Rehearse till your body makes the gesture naturally. Rehearse till the vocal chord and body are in sync. Rehearse till the next sentence comes naturally and you forget your surroundings till the end of the seventh minute
Hey I cleared the Club level Contest Remember what got you here will not get you to the next level. Give your speech 5/10 and then seek more mentoring. Review each and every line of your speech and check if the real estate can be used more effectively. Reach out to people who made it to the next levels before and spend time making the corrections. Seek advise but don’t ignore your gut feeling. You somehow know what works for you.
A Quick Checklist Am I passionate about the topic ? Purpose of the speech in a single line. Is the speech built around it ? Did I read the Judges ballot correctly ? Did I get my LOCK right ? Am I getting to the point quickly ? Did I read chapters cc 2 -cc 6 from the TM manual ? Is my speech grammatically correct ? Am I well dressed to make a mark ? Did I rehearse it enough ?
