MANY WOMEN’S CAREER PATHS ADVANCED “Susan has contributed to the advancement of many individual women in many capacities – from interns and research assistants to graduate students and colleagues. ” “Because of its military connection, NPS has a smaller representation of women than the larger OR/MS community, and is behind many academic institutions in developing policies supportive of women……. In this environment, her example and her support are particularly important. ” “She has been a leader in INFORMS in support of women in OR/MS. Susan was one of the founding members of WORMS and chaired the Ad Hoc Committee on Women in OR/MS that led to the establishment of WORMS from 1993 -1995. She served WORMS in many other roles, ranging from panelist in WORMS sessions at the annual meeting to serving as its President. ”

AN INVALUABLE ROLE MODEL AND GENEROUS MENTOR “There are not many who are so brilliant at what they do in their research, and yet are so generous with their time and energy to support junior faculty. She is humble and modest. But she is also a strong and courageous person in private and professional life. She is a dedicated teacher. She is a great mentor and inspiration to her students and junior faculty. ” ”Susan’s desire to help and support students and junior faculty, and the integrity to follow through with it has influenced my philosophy at my school. I have followed her example, have been mentoring junior faculty. ” “She supported and encouraged me to be the best at what I do. I believe she personifies the spirit of the WORMS award. ” ”As one of her thesis students, I was a direct beneficiary of her wealth of knowledge, and unrelenting support and guidance. ” “Interning for Dr. Sanchez was a unique experience in that she was interested in teaching interns like myself about OR and data farming in ways that appealed to each of us…. . She took time to help each intern develop projects to work on that fit their interests. ”
