Hello Reception Year 1 and Year 6 and our Key Group children Welcome back to school!

We have all missed you so much!

What changes have there been? • Things have been quite strange for the past few weeks, and we’ve had to stay at home a lot. • Now we’re coming back to school and things are a little different, but some things are the same. • Let’s talk about. . . What is the same? What is different?

Things that are the same • We still have all the same friends. • We have the same school staff. • People at school will still care for us and keep us safe.

Things that are different • • We will need to keep our distance from each other. We won’t be able to give each other hugs. We will be working and playing in smaller groups. Not everyone will be back in school. Some children will be doing their learning at home. We will have less equipment to use. Our classrooms will look a little different. Some of us will have a different teacher. We will all have a packed lunch and we will be eating outside or in our classrooms.

Getting Ready for School We will get dressed in our comfortable clothing and wear our trainers/ soft shoes for school. Our families will help us to remember the things that we need to bring with us to school. Our bags will stay at home. Just before we leave the house, we will give our hands a really good wash.

Coming into School In the morning, each group will have their own time to come into school. A staff member will be at the gate to say hello. My grown-up won’t come into school with me. My teacher will meet me on the playground, where we will line up and we will go into the classroom together.

Clean hands Before we go inside the school, we will all need to clean our hands with hand sanitiser. This is to make sure we don’t bring any germs into school!

Our Classroom Our classrooms will look a little bit different. All the children will have their own chair and table space. Our teachers will tell us where we will sit. When we are inside, we will stay on our chairs to do our learning. It is really important that we listen carefully to our teachers and follow the instructions that we are given.

Our Classroom Our teachers will give each of us our own tidy tray with our own equipment. We must look after our things and remember to put our equipment away when we are not using it! We won’t be able to share our equipment with our friends – but that’s ok because they will have everything they need too!

Going to the Toilet When we need the toilet, we will use the main school toilets. To help to make sure that we don’t mix with the other groups of children in school, we will use a cone to tell others we are in the toilet. We will have our own personal cone with our name on. If we see a cone on the floor, we will wait until that person leaves the toilet before going in.

Playtimes At playtimes, we will stay in our groups. Each group will have their own space to play in and we will all need to stay with our groups. We will have our playtimes at a different time from the other children in the school. Some times we will be able to play on the field and sometimes on the playground. Our teachers will tells us where we can play. We must all remember not to get too close to each other while we play! Our teachers will help us to do this.

Morning Snacks We might get hungry in the mornings so we will all bring in our own morning snack. This might be: • a piece of fruit • a cereal bar • a bagel Remember no crisps or sweets or anything containing nuts!

Lunch times Everyone will have a packed lunch. Some will come from home and some will be made by our school kitchen. We will eat our lunches outside when the weather is good. If it is raining or very windy, we will sit at our tables in the classroom.

How we are going to stay safe in school For a while we have to stop doing some things like: - Giving high fives Shaking hands Being really close to Hugging our friends other people Instead we can. . . Wave to each other Hug ourselves Thumbs Up Smile lots

How do you feel about coming back to school? We expect that lots of us will feel quite excited and also a little bit worried about coming back to school. This is completely normal and talking can help us to understand our feelings. While we are at home we can talk with our families and when we come back to school all the teachers will be there to listen to us and help us.

Going Home When it is time to go home, our teacher will take us out onto the playground. Our grown up will be waiting for us. Our teacher will tell us when it is safe for us to walk to our grown up. We won’t be able to stay and play with our friends We must remember to leave the school site straight away and make our way home safely.
