What is HDL and LDL? ? HDL(High density lipoprotein) and LDL(Low density lipoprotein) are two forms of cholesterol. LDL known as bad cholesterol because too much of it is bad for you. LDL is a substance made up of lipid and protein. ITS function is to carry cholesterol and lipids through the blood. It carries it from the liver through the blood, to the tissues where it is then stored. HDL is considered the “good cholesterol”. HDL is a lipoprotein of the blood plasma that is composed of a high amount of protein with triglyceride and cholesterol also within. HDLs transport lipids in the blood. HDLs also transport cholesterol from the tissues of the body to the liver.

How do LDL and HDL differ structurally and functionally? The main structural function between HDL and LDL is their composition. Like LDL 50% of its weight is cholesterol and then some 25% percent while HDL is more of the other way around. Another way they differ in structure is the type of proteins they each contain the protein they contain is important because it determines the function of the lipoprotein particle They differ in function because even though they both transport cholesterol , they deliver it to different parts of your body. LDL brings cholesterol to cells throughout your body and cause cholesterol to build up in your arteries. HDL on the other hand carries cholesterol away from your heart so it can benefit you.

Why do doctors monitor the concentrations of LDL and HDLs in the patient's blood?

Why do doctors monitor the concentrations of LDL and HDLs in the patient's blood? During blood test doctors monitor LDL and HDL because they are used help evaluate the patient's risk of a heart disease. If cholesterol is being taken from your cells can be determined in a blood test.

How HDL and LDL are associated with the risk of a heart attack If

How HDL and LDL are associated with the risk of a heart attack If there is too much cholesterol building up in the wall of your arteries it can lead to a heart disease. LDL will be the main reason of this because it transportes cholesterol to the cells which leads it to build up and cause heart problems. While HDL actually helps by transporting the cholesterol out and away from the heart helping.

Other molecules monitored along with HDL and LDL include triglycerides, low density lipoproteins, and high density lipoproteins. Triglycerides Are a type of fat found in the bloodstream inside of cholesterol molecules, therefore, high levels of triglyceride increase the risk for heart disease.

What do the results of a cholesterol test mean? ? It assesses several types of fat in the blood. It is measured in milligrams per deciliter. The test gives you four results: total cholesterol, LDL(bad)and HDL (good) cholesterol, and triglycerides (blood fats).

What can patients do to change their levels of LDL and HDL If you

What can patients do to change their levels of LDL and HDL If you just have a healthy diet it will help higher HDL and lower LDL. Saturated fat intake should be limited to 7% or less of total calories. Cholesterol should be 200 mg or less per day. Omega 3 fatty acids will increase HDL.

How does intake of saturated, unsaturated and trans fat affect cholesterol Your body naturally

How does intake of saturated, unsaturated and trans fat affect cholesterol Your body naturally produces LDl cholesterol. Eating saturated and fats will raise the cholesterol in your blood.
