How can high blood pressure cause a stroke over time? 1. Damage to blood vessels 2. Macrophages come to “help” 3. Macrophages get sick on LDLs and get stuck in blood vessel walls (plaque) 4. The plaque gets large 5. After many months or years, the plaque can come loose and block blood vessels (stroke)
How does high cholesterol speed up this process? 1. LDLs deliver more cholesterol to artery walls LDL 2. More LDLs in the blood = fatter, sicker macrophages to form plaques
